RESPONSABILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Working with customers to determine design need and/or repairs
- Acquiring knowledge in the area of gemsetting theory and techniques
- Communicating effectively with customers, in both words and pictures regarding design/style of piece; expectations re: timeline and cost
- Preparing written repair or new item orders
- Designing, repairing, setting and altering jewellery and gemstone work
- Measuring, cutting, sawing, filing and drilling metals
- Leading a project in meeting deadlines
- Working with precious stones, semi-precious stones,chains and clasps
- Making models of rings, brooches, pendants, bracelets and lockets prior to fabrication and assembly of the jewellery/gemstone piece
- Examining, cut, shape and polish diamonds, precious gems
- Examining and determining extent of damage to jewellery
- Cleaning, polishing and finishing jewellery and gemstone work
- Performing casting, centrifugal casting, and vacuum casting techniques
- Presenting the finished product for customer approval
- 6 years experience as a goldsmith
- 6 years experience working with precious metals (gold, silver, platinium)
- Engraving experience (intaglios)
- 6 years experience mounting stones
- Jewelery CAD Software understanding
- Experience working with milling machine
- Detail oriented
- English (spoken and written)
- Creative, reactive and flexible
- Applicants located in Cape Town will be privileged
- Must be familiar with the jewelry-making process, cost-cutting measures, etc.
